Applying the Nernst Equation to Control ORP in Denitrification Process for Uranium-Containing Nuclear Effluent with High Loads of Nitrogen and COD

Several reviews of denitrification have shown it to be an efficient process for treating high nitrate-loaded effluents from nuclear industries. However, stressful conditions adversely affect biological kinetic parameters and performance. Additionally, actual contain multiple pollutants radioactive emissions that could render implementation difficult. The objective this study was treat recycle water industries by using a mixture blended real wastewater (BRNW). carried out under physicochemical control in model established technical setup the effluent. Denitrification processes were sample controlled ORP Hill establish model. results show complete elimination nitrate bacteria. Indicators biochemical reactions used obtain based on Monod ORP. good fit proposed verified empirical simulated conditions. To optimal performance, necessary add 3% v/v methanol, as carbon source, remove BRNW. Isolation techniques confirmed Pseudomonas spp. dominant Gene expression demonstrated lack inhibition NosZ gene responsible reduction nitric oxide, “greenhouse gas”. Finally, COD uranium removed liquid precipitation. At end process, treated effluent potentially reused industrial processes, recycling most effluents.
